Kathmandu, Dec 4: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal, has confirmed that six Nepali youth have been recently killed in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Issuing a press release on Monday, the ministry have published the names of those killed in Russia who joined the Russian Army without Nepal government’s prior approval.
The deceased were Sandeep Thapaliya (Gorkha), Rupak Karki (Banganga-1, Kapilvastu), Dewan Rai (Pokhara, Kaski), Pitam Karki (Putalibazaar-5, Syangja), Raj Kumar Roka (Melung-6, Dolakha) and Ganga Raj Moktan (Ilam).
The Ministry have said that the government was assessing about the situation of Bibek Khatri as well who was captured by Ukraine Army from Avdivka region.
The government has requested the Russian government not to recruit any Nepali in the Russian Army, and sent back those who may have joined the Russian Army.
Nepal has bilateral agreements with some countries like India and United Kingdom where Nepali youth can apply and join their country’s regular army. But there was no such agreement with Russia or Ukraine.
In recent times, Nepali youth have begun illegally joining the Russian Army. According to multiple reports, nearly 200 Nepali youth have been recruited in the Russian Army. They were sent in the frontline of Russia-Ukraine War.
The Ministry has requested general people to take “No Objection Letter” before leaving for Russia provided from the Consular Department.
