Former Olympian KC to be awarded with cash prize of Rs 2.5 million



Kathmandu, Dec 9: The government has decided to award former marathon runner and Olympian Jit Bahadur KC with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 million. KC is the first Nepali athlete to bring home an international medal.

According to Minister for Communication and Information Technology and government spokesperson Jagadish Kharel, he shared this information while briefing the media about the decisions taken at the Council of Ministers on Monday.

KC had won the bronze medal at the first Asian Athletics Championship held in Manila, Philippines, in 1973.
Likewise, as per the Cabinet decision, the Mehelkuna–Khatang–Ghumkhare triangular suspension bridge project in Surkhet is to be listed as a project of national priority.

The meeting also decided to grant prior approval for conducting an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and its subordinate bodies.

Similarly, the Cabinet decided to form an investigation commission under the leadership of Deepak Subedi, with Sharad Adhikari and Yogendranath Karmacharya as members, to look into the enforcement of Supreme Court orders related to the transport sector.

The meeting further decided to transfer three colonels of the Nepal Army, extend the tenure of one brigadier general, and grant a special promotion to another brigadier general to the rank of major general.

A decision was also made to approve the organizational structure and staffing of the Office of the Auditor General and its subordinate bodies.

Similarly, it was decided to promote Joint Secretary Rajendra Kumar Paudel to the vacant Secretary post in the gazetted special category under the Nepal Administration Service group, and appoint him as the Chief Secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Koshi Province.

The meeting also approved the nomination of Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, as a candidate for the position of the ninth General Secretary of the Colombo Plan.

Likewise, as per the Cabinet decision, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement with Mauritius has been terminated.

The Cabinet has granted permission to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to establish the Irrigation Management Company Limited, and to transfer four Joint Secretaries from the Nepal Judicial Service, Judicial Group.

It was also shared that approval has been given to conduct an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and its subordinate bodies.

Additionally, as per the government’s decision, Secretary Dr Deepak Kumar Kharal (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development) will participate in a programme scheduled to take place in Thimphu, Bhutan, on December 15–16.
