‘Gandhi first spokesperson of decentralization’

            Kathmandu, Oct 2 : President of main opposition party, Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Gandhi was the first spokesperson of decentralization, who stressed on giving priority to villages for development.

            Speaking at the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and International Non-violence day here today, he said the urban centres have been burdened with over population due to lack of facilities in the villages. He also talked about how Gandhi defeated the British through peace and non-violence.

            Also speaking at the programme, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said Gandhi was successful in bringing social changes by influencing the human heart. The NC too used peace and non-violence to bring the Maoists into the political mainstream, he added.    

         NC Vice-chair Bimalendra Nidhi, former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitoula, Indian Congress leader Salman Khurseed and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Bijaya Sonkar Shastri also shed light on the various dimension of the personality and contribution of Gandhi.
