Kathmandu, Nov 24: The Nepal Gen-Z Front, led by Rakschya Bam, has demanded the immediate dismissal of Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s Chief Personal Secretary, Adarsh Kumar Shrestha.
The Front has also called for the cancellation of appointments allegedly given to Shrestha’s family members and relatives.
After media reports revealed that Shrestha had facilitated the appointment of his relatives and family members to positions within the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the Gen-Z Front issued a statement demanding his immediate removal and the annulment of those appointments.
In its statement, the Gen-Z Front said that nepotism, favoritism, and family-based appointments in a sensitive institution like the secretariat of the head of the executive branch constitute not only an abuse of authority but also a direct attack on good governance, ethics, accountability, and transparency.
The statement further reads: “How is a nepotism- and favoritism-based appointment possible in a government formed on the slogans of good governance and accountability? The Prime Minister’s Office must immediately provide clarification and make the facts public.”
According to sources, Shreatha facilitated the appointment of his wife Sangita Shrestha in the PM Office as Joint-Secretary level post. Likewise, relatives Kamala Shrestha has also been appointed as a Personal Joint Secretary. Their appointments were made within a week of Sushila Karki assuming office as Prime Minister. Poonam Shrestha and Rabina Shrestha were also appointed the same day as administrative assistants, a position equivalent to a non-gazetted second-class employee.
Even, Sudhan Gurung led ‘The Council of Gen Z’ has stated that they will be meeting with the Prime Minister today itself and request for the removal of Shrestha and annulment of these appointments. #nepal #genz
