Kathmandu, Aug 15: In fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), the government’s total expenditure amounted to Rs. 1,508 billion. In the previous fiscal year 2023/24, total spending had reached Rs. 1,408 billion.
Of this, 85.95% (Rs. 980.38 billion) was spent on recurrent expenditure, and 63.2% (Rs. 222.68 billion) on capital expenditure. According to the presentation made at the Annual Progress Review and Performance Agreement Exchange Ceremony held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, 87.87% (Rs. 320.04 billion) was spent on financial management.
Compared to the end of July 15, 2024, recurrent expenditure at the end of July 15, 2025 increased by 2.94%. Similarly, capital expenditure increased by 16.15% compared to the previous year’s end. In FY 2024/25, 87.14% of the target for financial management expenditure was achieved. Overall, 81.87% of the annual spending target was met.
In FY 2024/25, tax revenue reached 81.75% of the annual target, and non-tax revenue reached 95.45%, making total revenue collection 83.06% of the annual target. In FY 2023/24, total revenue collection was Rs. 1,030 billion, while in FY 2024/25 it reached Rs. 1,178 billion — an increase of 14.41% from the previous year.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, tax revenue grew by 13.25% and non-tax revenue by 28.8% compared to the previous year.
In FY 2024/25, total imports were worth Rs. 1,804 billion, while total exports amounted to Rs. 277.03 billion. This resulted in a total trade deficit of Rs. 1,527 billion. Compared to the previous year, imports increased by 13.3% and exports rose by 81.8%. #nepal #expenditure
