Kathmandu, Feb 28: CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has criticized the government for attempting to introduce an ordinance to amend land-related laws without first withdrawing bills that are already under discussion in various parliamentary committees.
Speaking at an interaction on ‘Land-Related Ordinance’ organized by the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal in Kathmandu on Friday, Nepal accused the government of using the ordinance to benefit political allies rather than genuinely addressing the country’s land issues.
“The government must function within legal procedures,” he emphasized, expressing doubts about the ordinance’s true intentions. “There is little reason to believe that this ordinance has been introduced with good faith.”
Echoing his concerns, Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal and former Deputy Prime Minister, demanded that the government immediately withdraw the ordinance. He warned that failure to do so could result in widespread protests.
Yadav also stressed the importance of properly identifying landless squatters and consulting experts to find a sustainable solution to their issues. #ordinance #nepal
