Kathmandu : Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lalbabu Pandit has shared about the government plan of opening Local Development Training Academy in every state.
While inaugurating the ‘second international conference on the capacity development of local levels for the implementation of sustainable development goals’ here today, the Minister said the purpose of such Academy will be for the capacity enhancement of local level employees and people’s representatives. The event is organised by the Academy.
Admitting that some issues still existed at the local level, he said the government was working to resolve them. “Presently, the locals have failed to perform as per the expectation. We gave them required laws late,” he said, giving commitment to allowing the local levels exercise the rights granted to them by the constitution so as to make local governments more responsible and accountable to the people.
As he said, preparations are going on to further clarify sole and shared rights given for the local level.
Academy Executive Director Pit Kumar Shrestha spoke the need of inter-relations among the Federal, State and Local Levels to facilitate the implementation of federalism. As he said, programmes aimed to promote such ties were being operated in State 1, 2, Gandaki State, State 5 and Far West State.
People’s representatives from Japan, India and from the Kathmandu Valley are taking part in the conference.
