Kathmandu, Jan 6: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has adjusted the fare rates for public passenger and freight vehicles operating across provinces.
According to a statement issued by the department, passenger vehicle fares have been increased by 3.30 percent. Similarly, freight vehicles operating on hilly roads will see a 0.81 percent rise, while those operating on Tarai roads will experience a 0.05 percent increase.
Fare adjustments have been based on a fuel component accounting for 35 percent and other indicators contributing 65 percent of the cost structure.
The fare adjustment was implemented following the ministerial decision of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on Poush 11. The decision relies on 13 key indicators, and the current adjustment follows the ministerial agreement dated Asar 27, 2078. Since then, fare rates have been revised whenever fuel prices change by five percent or more. The last fare adjustment was made on Bhadra 31, 2080.
The fare increase does not apply to vehicles operating within a single province. Director General Rajib Pokhrel stated that although fare adjustments are typically scheduled annually in the month of Chaitra, the revision was made this time after a two-year hiatus. #fare #vehicle
