Govt. serious on issues related to Dalit community: Minister Chaurasiya

Kathmandu, May 9: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya said the government is serious to the issues related to the Dalit community.

Laying emphasis on assuring effective implementation of laws for eliminating caste-based discrimination and untouchability, he shared that the government has come up with legal and policy commitment to end untouchability and caste-based discrimination.

The Minister said this at the ‘Justice Summit 2025’ organized by the Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance and Global Legal Defense Fund. Santosh Pariyar, a member of the House of Representatives, said though the Constitution has enshrined the rights of the Dalit community, the implementation aspect is weak.

Lawmaker Sita Mijar stressed the need for the federal, provincial and local levels to bring special programmes targeting the Dalit community. Founder and Chair of Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance Pradeep Pariyar pledged to host meaningful dialogue and creative initiatives to end structural discrimination, injustice and violence against Dalits and marginalized communities.

On the occasion, working papers were presented on the topics related to constitution, federalism, inclusion, Dalit women and justice, and a front beyond caste.

Legal experts, leaders of political parties and representatives of civil society commented on the working papers and expressed the view that all state mechanisms should be serious and responsible to end caste discrimination.#nepal # Dalit community #rss
