Health Insurance Board to expand services in all 77 districts

Kathmandu, April 7: The service of the Health Insurance Board has been extended to 77 districts and 748 local levels. According to the Executive Director of the board, Dr. Damodar Basaula, the Board has paid special attention to service expansion and quality of service available.

In the interaction held today about health insurance, Executive Director Basaula said that the insurance number has been increasing in a positive manner. He emphasized that all levels and agencies should be responsible for the effective implementation of insurance policy. “Since the insurance that is being operated is common to everyone, everyone should be responsible for promoting it so that they are not deprived of health treatment due to financial shortage”, he said.

He said that due to the lack of first service points in Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the health insurance program has not been implemented and discussions have been held with the relevant authorities and it will be implemented soon. He said that the Board has prepared and implemented 10 out of 11 procedures to promote the insurance program. The spokesperson of the board, Shambhu Prasad Gyawali, said that the insurance program, which has been in operation since Chait 25, 2072 BS, the total insured population is 6,454,772 and the listed service providers are 456.

According to the Board, the number of people currently taking the service stood as 2,893,572.

In accordance with the target category, there are 498,722 extremely poor insured population and 777,816 senior citizens. The number of insured persons infected with HIV/AIDS including their family members is 32,530, the number of insured persons with severe disabilities is 122,154, the insured persons infected with leprosy are 3,242 persons, the insured persons infected with TB are 3,017 persons and the number of insured women health volunteers stood as 109,607.
