House election preparations progressing as scheduled

Kathmandu, Dec 5: With 90 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission (EC) has intensified its preparations. Political parties have also accelerated their internal activities, keeping the upcoming election at the centre of their planning.

As part of its election timeline, the Commission is set to begin procedures related to the proportional representation (PR) system from Saturday, December 6. According to the schedule, political parties must submit their applications for participation in the PR system on December 7 between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

The EC will publish the list of political parties applying for the PR system on December 10. Parties that have submitted applications must then present their closed lists of PR candidates on December 28 and 29, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The final publication of the closed list of PR candidates has been scheduled for January 20, 2026, EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai confirmed.

Under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) election schedule, nomination papers for FPTP candidates will be registered on January 20, with the preliminary list of candidates also being published the same day. The period for filing objections against candidacies is set for January 21, and the updated candidate list will be published on January 22.

Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations on January 23. The final list of candidates will be published the same day, and electoral symbols will be distributed accordingly. #nepal #election
