Kathmandu, May 13: Nepal is going to organize the T-20 World Cup Qualifying Tournament for the Asia Region. Nepal has received permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host the Asian region qualifiers for the T20 World Cup to be held in America and the West Indies in June 2024.
Chatur Bahadur Chanda, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), informed that the ICC has given the permission to organize the T-20 World Cup qualifying tournament in the Asia region from November 1 to 10. Along with Nepal, UAE, Oman, Hong Kong, Bahrain and Singapore are competing in Asia’s selection. The remaining two will come through the qualifying round.
Participating teams will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The teams that reach the finals will qualify for the World Cup next year in America and the West Indies. According to Chanda, the matches of the tournament will be played at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur and Mulpani Cricket Ground.
The UAE also claimed to host the tournament. For the first time, Nepal is going to organize such a big tournament of ICC.
Hosts America and West Indies have been directly qualified for the 2024 World Cup. In the last Twenty20 World Cup held in Australia in 2022, the top 8 nations, Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka have also qualified for next year’s T20 World Cup.
In addition, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who are at the top of the World Twenty20 rankings, have also made it to the T20 World Cup. Twenty nations will participate in the T20 World Cup for the first time. Along with Asia, 2-2 teams from Africa and Europe and 1-1 teams selected from America and East Asia Pacific region will compete in T-20 World Cup.
