Kathmandu, Oct 30: Oman and Hong Kong have won their matches here on Monday as part of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers.
Oman won by 32 runs in the match against Malaysia at the TU Cricket ground in Kirtipur this afternoon. Pursuing the winning target of 154 runs given by Oman, Malaysia was reduced to 121 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.
For Malaysia, Virandeep Singh remained unbeaten on 57 runs off 53 balls with 2 fours and two sixes. Similarly, Zubaidi Zulfiki scored 14 runs, Ahmed Faiz scored 13 runs and Syazrul Ejat Idrus scored 10 runs, while other players could not score runs in double figures.
For Oman, Bilal Khan and Zeeshan Maqsood took two wickets each, while Fayaz Butt, Sakil Ahmed, Ayan Khan and Aqib Ilyas took one wicket each.
After winning the toss, Oman batted first and scored 153 runs losing six wickets. For Oman, captain Zeeshan Maqsood contributed the most 56 runs with five fours and two sixes. Similarly, Mohammad Nadeem remained unbeaten scoring 21 runs in 11 balls with two fours and a six. Opener Kashyap Prajapati scored 25 runs, Prateek Athwal scored 12 runs, Aqib Ilyas scored eight runs, Shoaib Khan scored four runs and Mehran Khan scored 15 runs.
Virandeep Singh of Malaysia took three wickets while Pawandeep Singh, Rizwan Haider and Vijay Unni took one wicket each.
Hong Kong won by 16 runs
Hong Kong defeated Kuwait by 16 runs in today’s match at Mulpani Cricket Ground. Chasing the target of 167 runs given by Hong Kong, Kuwait was reduced to 150 runs with the loss of eight wickets.
Batting first, Hong Kong scored 166 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs. For Hong Kong, Martin Coetzee scored the highest 81 runs while Babar Hayat contributed 31 runs and Nizakat Khan 25 runs.
For Kuwait, Syed Muniv took two wickets and Mohammad Safiq, Mohammad Aslam and Siraj Khan took one wicket each.
Kuwait, who came into the counter batting, had a bad start. They came under pressure after losing three early wickets in the fourth over. Usman Patel and Mohammad Aslam tried to handle the innings for Kuwait, but it was not enough for the win. Aslam scored 52 runs and Patel scored 29 runs. Both of them shared 68 runs for the fourth wicket. Bilal Tahir scored 36 runs for Kuwait while other batsmen could not score runs in double figures.
Aziz Khan took three wickets, Ehsan Khan and Ayush Shukla took two wickets each for Hong Kong.
Earlier this morning, Nepal defeated Singapore by eight wickets under Group A, while UAE defeated Bahrain by five wickets in the first match under Group B.
After today’s four matches, in the points table, Nepal is first and Oman second in Group A with one win each, while Malaysia and Singapore are third and fourth respectively.
In Group B, Hong Kong and UAE are ranked first and second with one win each, while Bahrain and Kuwait remain in third and fourth place.
