ICC World Cup Qualifier: Nepal lost to Ireland by two wickets, remains in eighth place

Kathmandu, July 4: Nepal has lost to Ireland by 2 wickets in the match held on Tuesday in Zimbabwe under the ongoing ICC One Day World Cup Qualifier 2023 for the 7th place playoff.

Ireland had to toil hard before securing the win against Nepal in the final over of the match. Chasing Nepal’s total of 268 runs, Ireland overcame it with only 4 balls to spare. Needing 5 runs from the last six balls, Ireland scored 5 runs in the first two balls of the last over bowled by Gulshan Jha.

After losing three wickets cheaply, Harry Tector (60) and Curtis Campher (62) steadied the Irish innings, giving way for the upcoming batsmen to take their team across the line. George Dockwrell scored 33 runs while Lorcan Tucker scored 24 runs.

For the bowling side, Karan KC was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 wickets giving away 58 runs in 10 overs. Kishore Mahato took 2 wickets while Sandeep Lamichhane and Gulshan Jha took one wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first at the Takasinga Sports Club in Harare, Nepal scored 268 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in the full quota of 50 overs.

For Nepal, Gulshan Jha contributed the highest 57 runs in 42 balls. Similarly, Nepal’s opening batsman Arjun Saud scored 48 runs in 84 balls while Kushal Malla scored 44 runs off 38 balls.

Similarly, Sandeep Lamichhane scored 32 runs in 30 balls and captain Rohit Paudel added 29 runs and Bhim Sarki scored 20 runs.

Ireland’s Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy and Craig Young took 2 wickets each, while Andy McBrine, Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany took 1 wicket each.

Curtis Campher was adjudged the player of the match for his 62 runs coupled with a wicket as well.
