Icebreak on Oli, Prachanda: one-to-one meeting



KATHMANDU, Dec 05: Breaking a 25-day-long lack of communication, ruling Nepal Communist Party’s two leaders Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other Executive Chairman of the party Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ met on Saturday.

A meeting was held between the two leaders at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. The meeting held before the Party’s high-level Secretariat meeting scheduled for today. There was no meeting between Oli and Prachanda after October 10. Oli and Prachanda are having a one-to-one meeting in Baluwatar.

The Secretariat meeting will discuss the reports of both Oli and Prachanda. A source close to Baluwatar said that a meeting was held between the two presidents to facilitate the meeting. Before their meeting with PM Oli, Prachanda had a discussion with leaders including Madhav Kumar Nepal at his residence in Khumaltar.

There is a bitter relationship between Oli and Prachanda as the Prachanda-Madhav Nepal faction has questioned the working style of the government. The controversy within the party further escalated after Prachanda submitted a written proposal on behalf of the majority members in the secretariat.

There was a lack of communication between Oli and Prachanda. However, leaders close to Oli have been meeting and discussing with Prachanda in an effort to reach a consensus. In an effort to reach a consensus, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had separate discussions with Oli and Prachanda.
