Ilam by-poll: Nembang maintains lead in vote count



Ilam, April 29: CPN (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang leads by more than 5,600 votes against his nearest rival Dambar Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress (NC).

Counting of the votes under the by-election to the Member of House of Representatives held on Saturday in Ilam, constituency-2 is ongoing.
As of now, votes from Phakphokthum, Chulachuli and Mangsebung rural municipalities and Mai municipality and wards no. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Deumai municipality have been completed.

As per the results of the vote count, Nembang has secured 16,944 votes while Nepali Congress candidate Khadka has polled 11,273 votes, according to Chief Returning Officer Keshav Ghimire.

Likewise, independent candidate Dakendra Singh Limbu Thegim has got 9,044 votes, Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Milan Limbu got 2,803 votes and CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Jit Bahadur Rai has 325 votes.

Currently, the counting of wards no. 6, 7 and 8 of Deumai municipality is ongoing. Votes from Ilam municipality remain to be counted.
Sixty-nine thousand two hundred and eighty-seven voters cast votes in the by-election.

The by-election in Ilam-2 was necessitated following the death of Subas Chandra Nembang who was elected from this constituency in the House of Representatives in 2022 elections. rss #nepal
