Immigration Dept rolls out new system to track and secure foreign nationals

Department of Immigration

Kathmandu, Dec 30:  The Department of Immigration has announced plans to launch the Foreign Citizen Management Information System from January 1, 2026.

The system is aimed at enhancing the security of foreign nationals in Nepal, strengthening information sharing among agencies, curbing potential criminal activities, and promoting tourism.

In the initial phase, the system will be implemented within the Kathmandu Valley. To this end, the Department of Immigration today organized a consultation programme to gather feedback from concerned organizations and agencies regarding the systematic rollout of the initiative.

Director and Spokesperson of the Department, Tikaram Dhakal, said that a special programme will be organized to formally inaugurate the system. He informed that suggestions and inputs were collected from relevant stakeholders to ensure its effective implementation.

Under the first phase, the system will be mandatory for star-rated hotels operating in Kathmandu Valley. In the second phase, beginning March 1, the system will be extended nationwide to all star hotels, airlines, tour and travel agencies, and money exchange services. It will later be gradually expanded to cover all categories of hotels, guest houses, and services provided by both public and private institutions.

For effective implementation, all agencies providing services to foreign nationals will be required to register in the system. Spokesperson Dhakal also stressed the need for prompt registration, citing the limited time remaining before the launch and the currently low level of participation among service-providing agencies. #nepal #immigration
