‘Implement OAG suggestion on arrears’

Kathmandu, March 6: The Office of Auditor General (OAG) has urged the government to implement the suggestions it furnished periodically so that arrears could be settled on time.

During a press conference organized at OAG on Thursday, Auditor General Toyam Raya said all sides concerned should be aware to implement the points mentioned in the OAG’s annual report. “Auditing must be effective; law must be abided, so enforcement of recommendation is imperative,” he said, adding that the local level’s arrears were decreasing as the analyses of last six years showed. But, the federal arrears were growing.

According to him, the arrears was on rise in the beginning because of inadequate information and knowledge on existing law, work procedure, new auditing system and lack of official infrastructures as well. Gradual knowledge and availability of infrastructure has helped minimize arrears, he argued.

The final auditing of government and public offices under the three-tiers of government is conducted by the OAG as per the constitution, and Auditing Act, 2072. The public institutions’ consistency, frugality, competence, effectiveness and relevance are analyzed during the audit.

Last year, the OAG had revealed the arrears amounting to a whopping Rs 95.60 billion at government offices. #nepal #political #rss
