Birgunj, Oct 27: Both imports and exports through the Birgunj customs checkpoint have decreased during the first three months of the current fiscal year 2024/25. This reduction is attributed to a contraction in foreign trade.
During the first three months of the current fiscal year, goods valued at Rs 143.91 billion have been imported through the customs checkpoint. Compared to the same period last fiscal year, imports have decreased by 6.43%. In the previous fiscal year’s corresponding period, imports through this checkpoint were valued at Rs 153.80 billion.
Dipak Lamichhane, the Chief Customs Administrator at the Birgunj customs office, said that there has been a general decline in imports during this period. “The rainy season has contributed to some decrease in imports,” he said, adding, “However, overall revenue collection has increased during these three months.”
Not only imports but exports have also seen a decline. During the first three months, domestic products valued at Rs 7.76 billion have been exported through this checkpoint. There has been an 8.33% decline in exports compared to the same period last fiscal year, where exports were valued at Rs 8.46 billion.
In terms of foreign trade through this checkpoint, exports account for 5% while imports constitute 95%. #custom #birgunj #nepal
