Independent candidate Basnet wins in Butwal Sub Metropolitan City-1

BUTWAL: Independent candidate Narendra Kumar Basnet won ward chair seat in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-1 in Rupandehi district.

He obtained 636 votes against his nearest rival Mahendra Lingel from the CPN (UML) having secured 551 votes.

Similarly, NC’s ward member candidate Nilam Gautam secured a win. Also, Premshila Dhobi (Dalit woman category and Ashok Rai and Adil Ahmad Khan (both open category) won member seats.

Likewise, NC’s mayoral candidate Khelraj Pandey is leading the vote count. Of the total 1,974 votes counted so far, he has got 843 votes followed by Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Mrigendra Kumar Sherchan’s 414 votes. Similarly, UML’s Baburam Bhattarai has secured 340 votes.

Janata Samajwadi Party’s ward chair candidate Udaya Raj Gaderiya won in Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-1. He secured 992 votes against 991 votes obtained by his closest contender from the NC.

Reelection to take place in Vyas-8

Reelection is scheduled to take place in two voting centres of Vyas Municipality-8 in the district of Tanahun.
The Election Commission (EC) took a decision to hold reelection there by cancelling the voting conducted on Friday.
Chief Returning Officer of Tanahun Harish Chandra Dhungana said reelection will take place on May 18 in the two voting centres of ward no. 8 in Vyas Municipality.
Likewise, counting of votes will begin only after completing the voting there in the two centres.
The issue of fairness in the polls there was raised after independent candidate Dipak Raj Joshi was thrashed in Phedi voting centre.
Injured Joshi is receiving treatment in Frontline Hospital, Kathmandu.

Kathmandu’s independent mayoral candidate Sah continues to lead with 402 votes

Independent mayoral candidate in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Sah has continued to lead vote count with 83 vote margin. He has so far secured 402 while counting 1,180 votes while his closest rival CPN (UML)’s Keshab Stapit got 319 votes, according to the latest vote count update. Sirjana Singh, a mayoral candidate from the ruling alliance, has got 202 votes and Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s candidate Madan Das Shrestha secured 53.
Similarly, the metropolis’s deputy mayoral candidate, Sunita Dangol from the UML has led the vote count with 530 votes. Her closest contender Rameshwor Shrestha from the CPN (Unified Socialist) secured 110 votes.
Vote count of metropolis-1, 2, 3 and 32 is underway, informed district returning officer Prem Prasad Paudel.
Of total 300,242 eligible voters at the metropolitan city, the voter turnout was 190,170.

CPN UML emerges victorious in Lomanthang

CPN (UML) candidates have emerged victorious to the key posts of Lomanthang Rural Municipality in Mustang.
UML candidate Tarsinarbu Gurung obtained 668 votes to secure his victory to the post of chair. Likewise, Chhyumi Bista of the same party became vice-chair securing 622 votes, informed Election Officer.
Gurung’s close contender Tasi Gurung of the Nepali Congress (NC) got 514 votes while Bista’s arch-rival Tshering Dhoka Gurung secured 529 votes in the vice-chair, informed Returning Officer Ghanashyam Subedi.
As shared NC candidates won the posts of ward 1 and 5 chairpersons whereas UML won chairpersons in ward 2, 3 and 4 of Lomanthang.
A total of 1,231 people had cast their votes at Lomanthang on Friday. The rural municipality has a total vote of 1,948.
Vote count results of all local levels of Mustang excluding Thasang have been made public. UML has won in Lomanthang, Lodhekar Damodarjkunda and Baragung Mukti Chhetra while Nepali Congress has clinched the leadership position of Gharpajhong Rural Municipality.

Counting begins in Simkot Rural Municipality

Counting of votes has started in Simkot Rural Municipality in Humla district from 6:00 pm today.
Counting started at 6:00 this evening after an all-party meeting that took place late this afternoon though the ballot boxes from all wards had arrived on Friday itself.
Chief Returning Officer Jagat Bahadur Poudel said the counting has been started from ward no. 1 of the rural municipality.
In Simkot Rural Municipality, 5347 had cast their votes on Friday.

Maoist Centre’s candidate emerges victorious in lucky draw

As two candidates for ward chair got equal votes in Rolpa Municipality Ward No. 2, the final result was released after a lucky draw.
The result was announced through the lucky draw as ward chairman candidates from CPN (Maoist Centre) Prakash Dangi and Deuchan Ghartimagar from the Nepali Congress (NC) got equal 543 votes.
After the lucky draw, Maoist Centre’s Dangi emerged victorious.
However, NC candidates in the ward members under Dalit woman’s category, woman and open category won the election in Rolpa Municipality Ward No. 2.

Reelection to take place in Barahathawa municipality-17

A reelection will take place in Barahathawa Municipality-17 in Sarlahi district as the May 13 local election was disrupted, the District Election Office said.
Various political parties and independent candidates including the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) accused the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) of preventing voters from others parties to vote, resulting in an election disruption, according to the Office.
JSP’s candidate Ram Bishwas Raya and his supporters have been accused of beating Birendra Raya of the CPN (Maoist Centre). As a result, the election was halted midway, said District Election Officer Diwakar Bhujel.
An all-party meeting will fix date for the reelection, he said.

NC wins in Nepalgunj sub metropolis-23

Nepali Congress has secured a win in Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City-23 in Banke district. Jabbar Ali Behana, a chair candidate in the ward from the NC, secured 232 votes while his closest rival Hussein Shesh from the Janata Samajwadi Party got 194 votes.

Vote count in Pokhara metropolis begins

Vote count in Pokhara Metropolitan City has begun at 4:15 pm today evening. It started two hours late due to various technical causes, it has been said.
The count began from Pokhara-12, said Nil Prasad Paneru, information officer for the office of chief election officer. Out of the total 207,712 eligible voters in the metropolis, the voters turnout was 143,228, he said. The CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Dhanraj Acharya from the coalition in the government and the CPN (UML)’s Krishna Thapa contested for a mayoral seat in the metropolis.

CPN (Maoist Centre) wins in Jagadulla rural municipality

Narasi Rokaya of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected the chairperson of Jagadulla rural municipality in Dolpa district.
Narasi got 622 votes to secure the win defeating his closest rival Hem Bahadur Mahatara of CPN (UML) by a margin of 37 votes.
Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Amrita Lama Bohara was elected to the post of vice-chairperson with 759 votes. Her closest rival CPN(UML)’s Chandrawati Thapa was defeated by a margin of 10 votes.

NC’s Gurung wins election in Naso rural municipality

Dhan Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Congress has been elected to the post of chairperson of Naso rural municipality in Manang district. He gathered 820 votes while his closest rival Man Bahadur Gurung of the CPN (UML) got 676 votes.
Similarly, Bed Bahadur Gurung of the CPN (Maoist Centre) from the alliance was elected vice-chair of the rural municipality receiving 902 votes.
Gurung’s closest rival Arjun Gurung, an independent candidate, got 591 votes. Out of 1,802 voters in the rural municipality, 1,496 votes or 83.01 per cent votes were cast.

UML wins chair, vice-chair in Baragung Muktichhetra

CPN (UML) candidates have won the election to the post of chairperson and vice-chair of Baragung Muktichhetra rural municipality in Mustang district.
As per the final result of the counting held at Kagbeni-based office of the Returning Officer, Rinjing Namgel Gurung and Dhiki Gurung of the CPN (UML) elected chairperson and vice-chair of the rural municipality receiving 867 votes and 749 votes respectively.
According to the Office of the Returning Officer, Rinjing Namgel’s closest rival Anjen Gurung of the Nepali Congress got 577 votes while Dheb Angbo Gurung of the NC gathered 677 votes.
Out of 2,224 voters in the rural municipality, 1,508 votes were cast in the election.

Ballot boxes to be carried on foot for three days for vote counting in Taplejung

The ballot boxes of the polling that took place at Yang in Phaktanglung rural municipality-7 in Taplejung district will reach vote counting centre in three days due to the geographic remoteness of the polling centre, according to the District Election Officer.
Although the helicopter would be mobilize to ferry the ballot boxes to the vote counting centre, the boxes could not be flown due to the adverse weather.
The boxes carrying ballot papers cast by 14 of 60 voters in this remote settlement are being carried by human.
Pibin Dulal, Information officer at the District Election Office, Taplejung shared that Yang, Olangchukgola, Ghunsa and Gyapla were four polling stations in the remote area of the district.
Ballot boxes from three other polling stations would reach the vote counting place tonight while Yang’s ballot boxes will reach on Sunday, shared Dulal.
Yang, a village at 4,200 metres above the sea level, has 11 households in total, mostly Sherpas. Among them 60 were enlisted in the voter list while 14 (10 male and 4 female) cast their vote in the local election held on May 13, added Dulal.

UML’s Ghale wins in Nesyang rural municipality

Kanchha Ghale of CPN (UML) has been elected to the post of chairperson of Nesyang rural municipality in Manang district. He got 861 votes.
Similarly, his closest rival, Tshiring Ongma Gurung of the Nepali Congress received 719 votes. Likewise, an independent candidate Tshiring Dhawa Gurung was elected to the post of vice-chair of the rural municipality by receiving 744 votes. His closest rival Rinjen Dhorje of the Nepali Congress gained 719 votes.
Out of 3,535 voters in the Nesyang rural municipalities, only 1,657 votes or 46.87 per cent were cast. Total voters turnout in Manang district was 62.60 per cent. Out of 6,496 voters in the district, only 4,077 votes were cast, according to Chief Election Officer, Punaram Khanal.

Alliance’s candidate Lalchan wins in Gharpajhong by two votes

Mohan Singh Lalchan of the CPN (Unified Socialist) has won the election as chairperson of Gharpajhong rural municipality in Mustang district. Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) had made electoral alliance in the rural municipality.
He received 760 votes while his closest rival Sanjay Kumar Thakali of the CPN (UML) got 758 votes.
Similarly, Jamuna Thakali of the Nepali Congress was elected vice-chair of the rural municipality by collecting 693 votes while her closest rival, Meem Kumari Sherchan of the CPN (UML) gathered 618 votes, according to the office of the Chief Returning Officer.
Out of 2,084 voters in the rural municipality, 1,598 votes were cast.
