Kathmandu, July 9: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Speaker Aryal said the government had completed its first 100 days in office and expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its support during Nepal’s recent elections.
Highlighting the long-standing ties between Nepal and India, Aryal said the two countries share a common civilisation, geographical proximity, and deep socio-cultural relations. He noted that bilateral cooperation through established mechanisms in areas such as trade, security, civil aviation, water resources, and connectivity has further strengthened the relationship.
The Speaker said regular high-level exchanges have reinforced bilateral ties and expressed confidence that expanding connectivity through air, rail, and bus services would deepen cooperation between the two neighbours. He also stressed the importance of continued collaboration in these sectors.
Aryal informed the Ambassador that he had invited Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, to visit Nepal and said he looked forward to welcoming him at a mutually convenient time.
Ambassador Srivastava said Lok Sabha Speaker Birla was keen to visit Nepal. He also invited Speaker Aryal and Nepali parliamentarians to visit India to observe and study India’s parliamentary practices.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and high-level political dialogue in strengthening Nepal-India relations.
