Kathmandu, Aug 15: The 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu on 15 August 2023. The celebration was part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which was launched by the Government of India in March 2021 to commemorate the historic milestone of 75 years of India’s Independence.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava. Ambassador also conveyed his greetings on the occasion to the members of the Indian Diaspora in Nepal.
This was followed by a video of the address to the nation from President of India, Droupadi Murmu. President in her message recalled the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters towards achieving India’s freedom and highlighted the country’s achievements in various fields. President said that she had observed a new confidence in the Indian diaspora towards the India story and added that India has been playing a crucial role in promoting developmental and humanitarian goals around the world. She also mentioned that India has assumed leadership role in international forums, especially the presidency of G-20.
The Embassy felicitated widows and next of kin of deceased Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces by disbursing their dues worth NPR 5.33 crore.
The celebrations witnessed renditions of patriotic songs and performances by the students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre of the Embassy and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu.
