Indonesian climber conquers Mt Ama Dablam



Kathmandu, May 23:  Indonesian female climber, Nadya Gianifa, successfully reached the summit of Mt Ama Dablam, 6,812 meters, on May 15, at 3:45 pm, as part of the Indonesian Women’s Red and White Expedition Amadablam Nepal (Ekspedisi Merah PutihPerempuan lndonesia Amadablam Nepal/EMPPIAN) 2026.

This success is a proud achievement for Indonesia and reflects the spirit, resilience, and capacity of Indonesian women in facing the challenges of international climbing in the Himalayan region of Nepal.

Upon arrival in Nepal on April 29, 2026, climber Nadya Gianifawas greeted by representatives of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Nepal, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, along with Indonesian citizens in Nepal.

This expedition is part of a series of technical ascents to three of the world’s great mountains, beginning with the ascent of AmaDablam (6,812 masl) in April–May 2026 and continuing with the ascent of Manaslu (8,163 masl) in Nepal in September–October 2027 as preparation before reaching the ultimate goal, the summit of K2 (8,611 masl) in Pakistan.

This year, in the spirit of Kartini Day, this expedition also embodies the ideals of Raden Ajeng Kartini, who championed Indonesian women’s equal opportunities, abilities, and roles with men in various fields, including mountaineering and extreme sports. Nadya Gianifa’s success is expected to inspire Indonesian women to continue to dare to dream, push boundaries, and achieve at the international level.

Throughout the expedition, the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka provided support and assistance to the expedition team, both upon arrival in Nepal and in close coordination with the EMPPIAN, Major General (Ret.) Asrobudi.

This support was provided through intensive coordination with the Indonesian network in Nepal to ensure smooth mobility, communication, and assistance for the team throughout the climbing mission.

Upon arrival in Nepal on April 29, 2026, climber Nadya Gianifawas greeted by representatives of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Nepal, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, along with Indonesian citizens in Nepal.

During the climb, Nadya underwent a gradual acclimatization and climbing rotation from Base Camp to Camps 1 and 2 before undertaking the summit push. During the initial stages, Nadyawas accompanied by a Nepalese guide, Pasang Sherpa.

Next, when she began her summit push to the summit of Ama Dablamon May 14, 2026, Nadya was accompanied by two professional Nepalese guides, Sonam Sherpa and Purba Tamang. After a summit push lasting approximately 18–19 hours in the extreme Himalayan terrain, Nadya successfully reached the summit of Ama Dablam on May 15, 2026, at 3:45 PM NPT.

She was safe and healthy before and after completing the ascent, and after the summit, she returned to Kathmandu, Nepal.

As a token of appreciation for this achievement, representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka (Defense Attaché and Socio-Cultural Affairs Officer) and Indonesian citizens in Nepal held a welcoming ceremony on May 22nd for Nadya Gianifa from EMPPIAN and another female climber, Furky Syahroni, who also successfully reached the summit of Ama Dablam on May 17, 2026. This achievement brings the number of Indonesian climbers recorded as having successfully reached the summit of Ama Dablam to date to 12.

On this occasion, the Indonesian Embassy representative conveyed a message from the Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh and Nepal, Mrs. Listyowati:

“Climbing the mountains of Nepal presents challenges and difficult terrain, requiring strong physical and mental preparation from climbers. Climbing in Nepal is not only about enjoying a risky adventure, but also about carrying out meaningful missions and dreams, as is the case with this one.

With pride and appreciation, congratulations to Nadya Gianifaand the other outstanding female climbers who have successfully reached the summit of Amadablam (6,812 meters above sea level), and the support of the Red and White Expedition Team.

May they continue to inspire Indonesian women to continue the struggle of R.A. Kartini, and bring Indonesia’s name to the international level, while further strengthening the bonds between the Indonesian and Nepalese communities.”

The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Nepal and his staff, as well as the Indonesian community in Nepal, as a demonstration of support and solidarity among Indonesians abroad.

Nadya Gianifa’s success in conquering Amadablam symbolizes the unyielding spirit, professionalism, and courage of Indonesian women to perform and achieve at the global level.

The Indonesian Women’s Red and White Expedition Team also expressed its appreciation for the support of the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka, all parties in Nepal, and the Indonesian community, who provided encouragement throughout the entire climb.
