Washington DC : Nepal’s Ambassador for the USA, Dr Arjun Kumar Karki, applauded International Nepali Literature Society (INLS) for its significant role in the promotion of Nepali language, art and literature.
He was addressing the 111th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota and the INLS award distribution ceremony held in the Washington DC on Sunday.
“It is really commendable that the INLS made sure the arrivals of mainstream figures of the Nepali literature here and provided an opportunity to listen to them and their creations,” he said.
On the occasion, Professor Dr Khagendra Luintel was honoured with the INLS Ram Lama Abinashi Special Talent Prize carrying a price of Rs 250 thousand. The award is biannual.
Likewise, “Robotka Aakha” (the Robot’s Eyes) by Narendra Raj Poudel was given the INLS Outstanding Prize carrying a price of 2,000 US dollar while “Chhapro No 55” (Hut No 55) by Ramesh Diyali bagged the Dil Leela Outstanding Diaspora Prize of the equal amount.
Noted woman literary figure Kunta Sharma was honoured with the “INLS Rohini Sharma Sita Sharma Kabya Prize”, carrying a purse of US dollar 1,000.
Similarly, story writer Yubaraj Mainali was given the INLS Padam Bishwakarma Prize and the INLS Late Dilliram Timsina Prize was given to novelist Tirtha Gurung. Both prizes carry a purse of US dollar 1, 000 each.
It was Gazaal writer Namita Baral who bagged the Gazal Prize of US dollar 500 and culture expert Tej Bahadur Karki received the Masto Culture Award. (RSS NEPAL)
