Kathmandu, March 11: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has issued a prohibitory order banning protests and gatherings in key areas of the district for the next two months.
According to the order, sit-ins, demonstrations, rallies, and assemblies are prohibited near executive, legislative, and judicial offices, as well as VIP residential areas and major administrative centers like Singhadurbar.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Rishiram Tiwari stated that the decision aligns with international practices and past court verdicts. He emphasized that such gatherings often lead to vandalism, arson, clashes, and disturbances, disrupting public services, transportation, and overall law and order.
Effective from March 9, the order restricts gatherings of five or more people in the designated areas, including:
- Government offices and institutions: Singhadurbar, Supreme Court, Office of the Auditor General, Department of Archaeology, and District Administration Office.
- VIP residences: Office of the President (Sheetal Niwas), Office of the Vice President, Prime Minister’s official residence (Baluwatar), residence of the Chief Justice, and the residence of the National Assembly Chairman.
- Other key locations: Bhadrakali Mandir, Padhmodaya School, Anamnagar area, Hanumanthan Mandir, Nepal Rastra Bank’s central office, and the Federal Parliament Building.
The prohibitory order remains in effect for two months to maintain peace and public order in the capital. The government came up with the banning after pro-monarchy people began staging protests in recent days. #protest #kathmandu #nepal
