KATHMANDU: The Jhala Nath Khanal-Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of CPN (UML) has termed the announcement of Chairman KP Sharma Oli that the party will return to Jestha 2, 2075BS for party unity as misleading.
A meeting of the Khanal-Nepal group called for a united UML with a six-point proposal submitted on April 20 and May 9.
“Examining the language and points used in his statement, there is a tendency to confuse and divide others on the basis of deception and confusion,” said in a statement published by leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. “It is a matter of concern that a person holding a responsible position like the party Chairman and the Prime Minister of the country has adopted an inappropriate path and style.”
The meeting of the Standing Committee of the Khanal-Nepal faction has also drawn Oli’s attention to the fact that positive results will come only if the path of dialogue and consensus is followed sincerely. In a written statement, leader Nepal said that although he had been in favor of party unity from the very beginning, problems had arisen in the party after violating the party’s statute.
“We sent a concrete proposal to KP Sharma Oli twice in writing on April 20 and May 9 to maintain the unity and effectiveness of the UML,” the statement said. “His call for unity without addressing any of our issues and without any talks is really a misleading that hampers party unity.”
The Khanal-Nepal group concludes that Oli’s proposal is aimed at creating confusion rather than uniting the party.
Similarly, it has been mentioned that the Party’s committees and affiliate organizations will be basically restored to their Jestha 2, 2075 BS but proposed a new date of Jestha 3, 2075. Leader Nepal has also objected to not writing clearly about the withdrawal of the alleged action taken against them.
“Instead of taking responsibility for the unconstitutional dissolution of the House of Representatives and correcting such a wrong decision, the precondition is to withdraw our signature in the writ petition filed in the Supreme Court for the restoration of the House of Representatives,” the statement reads. “If the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives is reversed by the Prime Minister, the dispute will be resolved automatically.”
After Oli issued a statement calling for party unity, a meeting of the standing committee of the Khanal-Nepal group was held on Monday to form a common view on the issue. The meeting concluded that the Oli’s call was to divide the Khanal-Nepal faction.
