Nepalgunj, Dec 24: The government-owned Bheri Hospital in Banke is set to commence kidney transplant services. The hospital has partnered with the Shahid Dharma Bhakta Human Organ Transplant Center, Bhaktapur, to provide this specialized service.
On Monday, in the presence of Health and Population Minister Pradip Paudel, a formal agreement was signed between Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha, Director of the Human Organ Transplant Center, and Dr. Nirajan Subedi, Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital.
Minister Paudel stated that the government aims to expand human organ transplant services to all federal hospitals, ensuring they are affordable, accessible, and convenient. “With this agreement, Bheri Hospital will soon offer this service. The plan is to extend such services across all provinces,” he remarked.
Dr. Shrestha assured that the center would provide necessary human resources and technical support to Bheri Hospital to initiate the services. He added that the service is expected to start within a month, so that the patients don’t need to travel to other districts or India for kidney transplants.
“There are certain legal processes required to begin this service. Once those processes are completed, it may take about a month to finalize the setup, expand the services, and manage the required personnel,” Dr. Shrestha explained. He emphasized the center’s commitment to making kidney transplant services affordable for all.
Dr. Subedi, the Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital, stated that expanding specialized services, including organ transplantation, is a priority. He expressed confidence that legal hurdles would be resolved promptly, allowing the service to start without delay. #nepal #kidney #transplant
