Kathmandu,  Aug 23: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has collected Rs 654 million more revenue in the first month of the current financial year 2023/24. In the same period of the last financial year, KMC had collected revenue of only Rs. 45 million.

KMC has set a target of Rs 10.81 billion revenue collection for the current fiscal year, informed Dhruv Kafle, head of KMC Revenue Department.

In the first month of the current year, the highest amount of Rs. 310 million was collected from household tax, according to Kafle. Rs. 12 million rupees have been collected in property tax. Only Rs 35,000 has been recovered in the judicial fee. Kafle informed that the revenue amount of KMC has increased recently due to the increase in taxpayers and strong motivation by the KMC.

According to him, the number of taxpayers has increased significantly compared to previous years as well. Now there are more than 300,000 tax payers in KMC. In order to pay taxes on time, KMC is also doing motivational work in all 32 ward offices in the morning and evening under the leadership of ward members and employees.

With the release of the revised tax guidelines, the number of tax payers has increased by about 51,000. The number has increased by almost 1000 only after the release of the guidelines. According to the guidelines, a person must enter into a written agreement with the concerned ward office when he/she gives back the floor, shop, workshop, garage, warehouse, terrace, factory, real estate or the land or pool that is given to be given back.

KMC has been collecting taxes under 36 headings including property tax, real estate, property tax, business and entertainment etc. KMC  had collected Rs 10.25 billion revenue in the last year 2079/80 BS. Although the internal revenue has increased as per the target in the last year compared to the previous year, the overall revenue has decreased last year due to the decrease in the allocation and subsidy from the federal and state governments.
