KATHMANDU: A clinical trial of a vaccine against the coronavirus developed by a Korean company will also be conducted in Nepal.

The vaccine against the coronavirus developed by the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) Korea is being prepared for clinical trials at Nepal’s Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj and Dhulikhel Hospital.

According to sources, the Ethical Board of the Nepal Health Research Council has also decided to give approval for the vaccine trial.

If the cabinet approves, the clinical trial of the IVI vaccine against the coronavirus will begin in a few weeks.

The Ethical Board of the Research Council is preparing to send a proposal to the Council of Ministers for permission to start a clinical trial of the vaccine, Council Member Secretary Dr Pradip Gyawali said.

Preparations have been made to vaccinate 1800 people for the first phase.

Chief Investigator Dr Shrestha said the trial would begin after the cabinet approval.
