Koshi Province sees Rs 2.56 bln startup projects, Youth driving digital shift

Kathmandu, Jan 6: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, has reported that a total of Rs 2.56 billion has been invested in startup businesses in Koshi Province.

A special study conducted by the central bank revealed that entrepreneurs aged between 21 and 70 years are involved in startup ventures in the province. Of the total investment, 38.7 percent was financed through loans, while 61.3 percent came in the form of equity.

According to the report, entrepreneurs in the 36–50 age group operate the largest share of startups, accounting for 44.4 percent of the total.

The study further showed that 73.3 percent of youth entrepreneurs are engaged in the information technology sector, while youth participation is lowest in agriculture at just 21.2 percent.

The NRB noted that young entrepreneurs are increasingly focusing on digital and technology-driven businesses.

Data for the study were collected from 160 startup enterprises in the province that were shortlisted for credit support by the Industrial Enterprise Development Institute.

The study covered five business sectors: agriculture, production, services, tourism, and information technology. Of the total startups surveyed, 41.3 percent were related to agriculture, followed by 18.1 percent in the production sector, 17.5 percent in the service sector, 13.8 percent in tourism, and 9.4 percent in the information technology sector. #nepal #investment
