Kunwar wins Sony World Photography Award



Kathmandu, Mar.1: Bibek Kunwar, a budding photographer, clinched the prestigious ‘Sony World Photography Award 2024′. He has captured image of a cheerful girl lying in the centre of a felt ball in Kapan.  Kunwar, 22, captured this moment while documenting a company’s production of felt balls.

Reflecting on his achievement, Kunwar expressed how the recognition fueled his passion for photography, amplifying his motivation and vigour.

Kunwar’s journey into photography began after completing his Secondary Education Examination (SEE). He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in multimedia from a college in Kathmandu.

His portfolio boasts a collection of innovative and imaginative snapshots.

The Sony World Photography Award, 2024 received a staggering 4,000 submissions from 200 countries, with Kunwar’s photograph standing out among those of emerging talents.

For over a decade, the Sony World Photography Awards have celebrated the talents of youth, students, photojournalists and photographers worldwide.

Winners receive Sony products along with 5,000 US dollar.

BBC reports that winning entries from 54 countries have been unveiled, promising a diverse showcase of talent.

The awarded photographs will be exhibited at Somerset House in London throughout April and May 2024.
