KATHMANDU: Senior Vice-President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that the government’s sick industries that were closed could be reopened in partnership between the government and the private sector.
Addressing the 46th Annual General Assembly and 16th Convention of the Gorkha Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday, Dhakal said that the closed and loss-making industries including the Gorakhkali Rubber Industry could be run through partnership between the government and the private sector.
“If there is a partnership between the private sector and the government, we can form a consortium and invest in such industries to revive them,” he said.
Dhakal said that it was necessary to change the traditional way of spending the government budget to increase capital expenditure.
He said that the government treasury has accumulated billions of rupees in revenue but the expenditure has not increased due to the old and traditional style of spending.
Stating that the revenue collection has exceeded the target in the last five months, he said that the contribution of the private sector has been huge to generate revenue.
Stating that not all the entrepreneurs are looking for profit, Dhakal said that everyone should respect their sense of service towards the society.
He complained that the private sector, which contributes a lot to the country’s revenue, has not been included in the government’s hierarchy.
He said that the businessmen have suffered in the name of market monitoring and it should be made dignified.
Senior Vice President Dhakal said that he was ready to make a personal partnership on behalf of the federation if there is any possibility of investment at the local level.
“If you have a business relationship between us, we will have a relationship whether we are in the post or not. What are the local possibilities here? If we can be involved in productive industries, tourism or any other business, this relationship will continue, ”he said.
