Kathmandu, Dec 10: Life insurance companies in Nepal have invested a total of Rs 789 billion across various sectors in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2025/26.
According to the Nepal Insurance Authority, the insurance regulatory body in Nepal, 14 life insurance companies invested Rs 789.82 billion as of October 17, 2025.
Of the total investment, companies invested Rs 9.73 billion in government savings bonds and treasury bills. Similarly, commercial banks received Rs 544.87 billion in fixed deposits, while infrastructure banks received Rs 7.17 billion in fixed deposits.
Likewise, they have invested Rs 46.91 billion in fixed deposits at development banks and Rs 6.75 billion in finance companies.
The companies also invested Rs 758.1 million in real estate; Rs 37.71 billion in ordinary shares of listed public companies; Rs 71.01 billion in preference shares, bonds, debentures, and other securities issued by banks and financial institutions; and Rs 11.27 billion in bonds and debentures issued by listed public companies.
In addition, companies invested Rs 11.69 billion in agriculture production and distribution, cold storage, housing, tourism, hydropower, solar and other renewable energy projects, cable cars, roads, transmission lines, education, and health sectors. Investments in the Citizen Investment Trust and mutual funds amounted to Rs 8.32 billion.
During the first four months, companies invested Rs 2.73 billion in shares of investment companies, Rs 16.32 billion in other promoter shares, Rs 1.67 billion in shares of unlisted public companies, and Rs 12.86 billion in other sectors.
According to the Authority’s data, Nepal Life Insurance has made the highest investment, totaling Rs 202 billion. The company has invested the most in fixed deposits of commercial banks and the least in unlisted public companies.
Life Insurance Corporation (LIC Nepal) stands second, with investments amounting to Rs 119.57 billion across various sectors. Himalayan Life has invested Rs 82.01 billion, while National Life has invested Rs 70.62 billion.
Similarly, Rastriya Beema Company has invested Rs 66.91 billion, Asian Life Rs 49.23 billion, Surya Jyoti Life Rs 43.64 billion, MetLife Rs 32.93 billion, Citizen Life Rs 26.51 billion, Sanima Reliance Life Rs 23.79 billion, Reliable Nepal Life Rs 20.69 billion, IME Life Rs 19.22 billion, Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Rs 18.10 billion, and Sun Nepal Life Rs 15.46 billion. #nepal #insurence #investment
