Chitwan, Oct 18 : Madi municipality has started providing stipend for higher education of children of those parents killed due to wildlife attack.
The municipality has started depositing Rs 500,000 in the bank account of such children. It initiated this campaign from last year so as to assist the students whose parent (father or mother) has been killed due to attack by wild animals, in their higher studies.
Madi municipality is surrounded by Chitwan National Park and the buffer zone community forest. Most wild animal attacks take place in Madi municipality for this reason. The wildlife also destroys the crops of farmers.
Municipality mayor Thakur Dhakal said the municipality has been depositing the amount in the bank account of the children. If there is more than one child of such parents then the amount is divided among them proportionately.
He said the municipality has deposited the amount in the bank account of a student whose father was killed in wildlife attack last year.
Apart from this, the municipality has also been bearing 90 per cent of the crop insurance policy of farmers. The National Park has also been providing money in compensation for the loss of life and property caused by the wild animals.
It is said the Municipality has started providing amount equivalent to the amount provided by the Park in compensation for the crop damage.
The Park provides one million rupees in case of a death of a person due to wild animals. It also provides treatment expenses to the persons injured in wild animal attacks.
