Kathmandu, July 24: Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has said that the role Metro Traffic FM has played in traffic management, raising traffic awareness, and reducing road accidents is commendable.
Addressing to the programme organized by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office today on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Metro Traffic FM 95.5, he said that the FM has played an important role in spreading public awareness against crime and in timely providing accurate and reliable safety information.
He instructed the FM station to expand capabilities in the coming days and broadcast timely, innovative, high-quality, and reliable citizen-centered programmes on road safety and security awareness.
IGP Karki said that road safety is a shared responsibility of the government, citizens, media, and stakeholders.
Lalitpur Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya Bajracharya stressed on the need for cooperation between the police, citizens, and all three tiers of the government for traffic management in the Kathmandu Valley.
She recalled that Traffic FM has been acting as a bridge to strengthen the relationship between the police and the citizens.
Senior comedian Madan Krishna Shrestha emphasized that the police should be provided with the necessary resources to strengthen peace, security, and harmony in society, as well as to manage traffic effectively.
Film star Rajesh Hamal mentioned that traffic management is not just the responsibility of the police, but the general public also needs to pitch in.
President of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, Saroj Sitoula, suggested to the government to invest in road infrastructure and technology to make traffic management more effective.
The Chief of Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Additional Inspector General of Police Sushil Singh Rathore, said that the Metro Traffic FM has been successful in becoming a bridge of information between traffic police, drivers, and passengers.
Suresh Prasad Kafle, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, said that the Traffic FM has been providing ‘traffic updates’ every 30 minutes on traffic management, weather, and air services to reduce road accidents and protect citizens’ lives and property. #nepal #rss
