Minister Chaudhary pledges to restore Melamchi soon



KATHMANDU: Minister for Water Supply, Uma Kant Chaudhary has pledged to restore the water supply from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project soon.

In his address to a programme organised to thank the representatives of the Nepali Congress 14th General Convention that elected him to as the party joint general-secretary, the Minister said he was committed to materialising the dream of former Prime Minister and NC veteran leader Krishna Prasad Bhatarrai of providing water from the Melamchi river to the people of Kathmandu Valley.

As he said, he was working to restore the water supply system soon though temporarily. As he said, leader Bhattarai was not remembered at all when the waters from the Sindhupalchowk-based River arrived the Valley and the project was inaugurated, which was political dishonesty on the part of the then government.

The project was completed in April and it has remained suspended since the devastating Melamchi flood damaged the intake of the project in June.

Stating that the party’s 14th General Convention had established the youth leadership in the party, he hoped that youths could prove their presence in every levels in the days to come.

Pradeep Poudel who was the candidate for the General Secretary in the General Convention said that his candidacy was for encouraging the role of youths in the party.

The participants of the programme including Nepal Students Union general secretary Baladev Timilsina insisted that the party should move ahead with new thoughts and visions.
