Minister Gurung wants PSB to amplify citizens’ voice

Prithvi Subba Gurung

Banepa, Feb 15: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung , has said the Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Nepal formed with the merger of two state-owned media, Nepal Television and Radio Nepal, should amplify citizens’ voice.

Inaugurating a two-day workshop relating to ‘role of employees in PSB and opportunities for career enhancement’, the Minister also serving as the Spokesperson for the government said PSB is not expected to speak about the government; it should give a proper space to citizens’ voices instead.

“Don’t develop the PSB as a mouthpiece of government; establish it as a platform for promoting the rights of citizens, freedom of expression, and dissemination of credible information,” Minister Gurung stressed.

He also advised the employees to change their working style. “Let’s work for the cause of citizens.” As he said, it depends on employees to make the PSB a failure or success.

Highlighting the role of trade unions in promoting good governance, he stressed transparency on the part of the rulers and the government.

PSB Chair Dr Mahendra Bista said the event was focused on setting guidelines for a further course of action for the PSB. As he said, procedures are on to prepare strategies, rules and by-rules for the PSB. #PSB #nepal #broadcasting
