Minister Lekhak stresses on constructing safe buildings for development

Kathmandu, Sept 26: Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, has pointed out the need of constructing safe buildings for the development of safe settlement.

Addressing the ‘Learning Exchange Workshop’ organized by USAID here today, Home Minister Lekhak shared that Nepal has made timely revision in Building Code, learning a lesson from the Gorkha earthquake.

He laid emphasis on the need of capacity building of technical human resources in every local level for the effective implementation of revised Building Code.

The Home Minister mentioned that the constitution has given special responsibility to local levels in the context of disaster management and three-tier governments have been doing their own responsibilities accordingly.

“Different organisations of government and non-government sectors are joining hands to fulfill their responsibilities in disaster management sector”, he underlined.

Minister Lekhak added, “USAID’s Tayar Nepal-Improved Disaster Risk Management Project, has been making significant contribution in disaster risk reduction and management sector in federation, provinces and local levels.”

He thanked the US government for its support through ‘Tayar Nepal’ project and expected further cooperation in disaster risk reduction and management sector in days to come. #USAID #nepal #HomeAffairs
