Kathmandu, Aug 12: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel vowed establishment of a state-of-the-art neurological treatment centre in Kathmandu.
Unveiling his ministry’s priorities and action-plan for health sector reform on Sunday, Minister Paudel shared that cardiac treatment services will be expanded in all other provinces except Bagmati Province in coordination with the Martyr Gangalal National Heart Centre.
The Minister informed that cancer treatment would be expanded in all seven provinces, while medical test of the foreign employment aspirants made more effective to reduce the death rate among the Nepali migrant workers.
For this, his Ministry will coordinate with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the Minister added.
Necessary strategy would be brought forward to reform health insurance scheme, informed Minister Paudel, adding the current ceiling of insurance coverage would be further stretched.
“Review of the legal and policy provisions relating to health insurance will be considered to ensure wider coverage of health insurance,” the Minister described.
Expressing concern over increasing cases of non-communicable diseases, he said that separate units would be established for non-communicable and psychiatric services.
On the occasion, he also presented his action-plans on the areas relating to Ayurvedic and alternative medicine, development and expansion of treatment services, quality control in medicine, nutrition and public health management among others.
According to him, he charted out his priorities as the Minister for Health and Population after holding discussions with the health sector experts. “I pledge to deliver on the priorities and action-plans I have prepared,” he reaffirmed.
