Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama concludes



Janakpur, March 14: The 15-day historical Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama (circumambulation), known as the Mahakumbha of Mithila, concluded on Friday.

The festival that had started from Kouchari of Dhanusha was attended by thousands of devotees from Nepal and India. The participants completed the long march all on foot covering 133 kilometers by taking rest at 15 different places with religious significance.

The festival has been observed since the 18th century, according to the people with knowledge of it. The devotees circumambulated the Panchakoshi Antargriha in Janakpurdham on the concluding day.

It commences on the auspicious hour of the first day of the bright fortnight in the month of Fagun (fagun shukla pratipada) in the lunar calendar. The pilgrimage march ends on Fagu Purnima in the Terai region.

It is traditionally believed that participating in this circumambulatory religious march help people do away with the sins and injustices caused by mind, words and deeds, and also fulfill one’s wishes along with enlightenment.#nepal #Mithila Madhyamiki #rss
