Monetary policy compatible to budget: Governor Dr Paudel

Kathmandu, July 16: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Dr Bishwanath Poudel has said NRB brought the monetary policy for the fiscal year, 2083/84 in a way it fully supports the execution of government’s budget and policies and programmes.

At a discussion organized by the Former Planners’ Forum Nepal on the monetary policy here Thursday, Governor Dr Paudel made it clear that the monetary policy was aligned with the objectives set in policies and programmes. “There was much expectation from the monetary policy last year, but is entirely fitting to the budget this year. Monetary policy can not be bigger than the budget,” he added.

The Governor claimed that NRB brought policy in line with the authority given by law. “The previous years suffered leakages before introduction of the monetary policy, which did not happen this year,” Poudel shared.

Governor Poudel suggested the government that it addressed issues of public concern because NRB alone can not address all concerns.

On the occasion, former executive director at NRB, Nar Bahadur Thapa, also observed that monetary policy this time is focused on a limited area. There is no point in getting disappointed by the present monetary policy, he argued.

According to him, the monetary policy this time was brought in three separate sections. Mere restructuring of loan is not enough but corporate restructuring for development of entrepreneurship.

NRB needs advancing corporate restructuring, Thapa suggested. #nepal #rss
