KATHMANDU: The Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Wednesday against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The group has been agitating since December 20 stating that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has no right to dissolve the House of Representatives.

The issue related to the dissolution of the House of Representatives is currently pending in the Supreme Court.

Addressing the gathering, the group’s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said that the Prime Minister did not have the right to dissolve the House of Representatives in the constitution and warned of creating a storm of agitation if the parliament was not reinstated. He said, “If the current peaceful movement is not heard, there will be a peaceful movement and a people’s uprising.”

He urged to listen to the voice of the people on the streets and said that the constitutional body should also listen to the voice of the people. He questioned, “What happens if a peaceful movement goes into rebellion?”

He said, “The storm is coming, the hurricane is blowing, no one can stop it”.

Stating that the polarization started as soon as the dispute was surfaced in the NCP, Chairman Prachanda criticised the warning of Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ who threatened to jail NCP leaders in Jawalakhel zoo.

Another chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal reiterated that they were the official NCP and insisted that they would get the Sun election symbol.

“If the Election Commission has any doubts, it should look at the 441 central members one by one,” he said. He insisted that there is no provision in the party statute of declaring first and second Chairman.

Senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal warned that the people’s movement would be ignited if the voice of the movement was not heard. Stating that the NCP led by Prachanda and Madhav Kumar Nepal was the official party, he urged the Election Commission to look into their demonstration if it was difficult to differentiate between them.

Before the meeting, processions were taken out from five different locations in the capital. The procession was from Maitighar, Pulchowk, Jamal, Kupandol and Lanchaur. The procession from all five places reached Sundhara and turned into the main procession. The stage was prepared for the meeting in a ‘T’ shape between the old bus park, the exhibition route and Bhadrakali Temple.
