Birendranagar (Surkhet) : The CPN UML leader Mrs Nanda Gurung has been elected the Speaker of Karnali Province. Gurung got 24 votes and was elected as the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly on Sunday.
Her nearest rival Khadga Bahadur Pokharel of Nepali Congress got 14 votes. UML’s Gurung got 10 votes from UML, 13 from CPN (Maoist Centre), and 1 vote from RPP. 38 Provincial Assembly members participated in the 40-member Assembly.
So, Mrs Gurung is the only female candidate to secure highest post in latest round of provincial elections.
In Karnali Provine, CPN Maoist Centre has secured Chief Minister and CPN UML has secured House Speaker.
