Kathmandu: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided to recommend party Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam as the member of the National Assembly, the upper house of the federal parliament.
During the meeting of NCP secretariat held at Prime Minister’s residence Baluwatar on Thursday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli shared this information.
Following the meeting, party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha informed that it was decided by the party to nominate Vice-Chair Gautam for NA member on behalf of the government.
The constitutional provision is that the NA member is appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the government.
Earlier, the government had recommended the present Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada as the NA member and the President appointed him.
The government can recommend three persons for the NA members which the President appoints as per the Constitution.
Earlier, Dr Khatiwada, Ram Narayan Bidari and Bimala Rai Poudel were appointed as NA members with government recommendation.
