Kathmandu: The ongoing central committee (CC) meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) concluded Sunday by deciding to hold the party’s unity general convention in second week of April, 2021.
The CC meeting also unanimously passed the political report of party chairs KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and the organizational report and statute amendment proposal of the secretary general with amendment.
The CC meeting has formed a three-member committee to study the contents of the much-hyped Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). Former prime minister and party senior leader Jhalanath Khanal would lead the team with Bhim Bahadur Rawal and Pradeep Kumar Gyawali as its members.
After the meeting, party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha told the reporters that decision was made to conduct the party’s unity national congress in second week of April, 2021 and the province and district level conventions would be completed prior to that.
According to Shrestha, the party CC meeting decided to immediately conduct the three-month-long national campaign for organizational strengthening and mass mobilization.
As decided by the CC meeting, the unification process of the central bodies would be completed within 15 days; the party politburo would be formed soon and participation of women would be ensured 33 percent in all levels till the conventions and general convention.
Likewise, the meeting elected Bamdev Gautam to the post of vice-chairman by creating the post in the party statute.Similarly, party chairman duo also committed to ending factionalism and erstwhile parties’ recognition from the top level.
Regarding the top leaders’ property details, party’s central discipline commission would take this issue while debates would be lunched to make the electoral system less costly and ensure a pro-people system.
The meeting also urged the federal government, state governments, all local governments and the people’s representatives to firmly remain committed, dynamic and fair towards development construction, good governance, public service and prosperity.
Government run by party directions: PM
In his address to the concluding session, party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that the government would be run as per the directions offered by the party, while urging the party rank and file to defend the government’s good deeds and disseminate them to the public notice.
Stressing to run ideological discussions and schools in the party, the PM argued that the incumbent government has arrested and taken actions against the corrupt figures, and quashed the allegations of mounting corruption.
“We are not extremists, narrow-minded, unruly or rightists. We will leave no stone unturned in the case of nationality and democracy. The party and the government are clear in this,” PM Oli said. On a different note, PM Oli said that the government has opted for special precaution measures to avert the impacts of corona virus in Nepal.
Meeting remarkable
Responding on behalf of the leadership to the queries raised in the meeting, Chair Prachanda clarified that the meeting was historic and directed the party leaders to move ahead by keeping themselves away from evils and aberrations.
Prachanda said, “We are very serious over the issues raised during the meeting. Let’s all get involved in the nationwide campaign by making the party united in the journey of reaching in socialism via scientific socialism.”
Nepal’s map to be made public
Rejecting the recent political map released by the Government of India that incorporates Nepal’s Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh Pass and Kalapani area on November 2, the CC meeting of the ruling NCP stated that that these territories and Susta area of Nepal’s territory based on the historical map, evidences and documents.
“The unilateral decision made against the previous understanding of resolving the border issue through foreign secretary-level mechanism of Nepal and India is not acceptable to Nepal,” reads the proposal passed by the meeting.
Likewise, the NCP CC meeting also praised stance and steps taken by the government to make a common national consensus by organising an all-party meeting regarding the issue was a right move.
The meeting also called the government to resolve the problem through diplomatic and political channels by making national consensus further strong and drew the government’s attention to immediately take necessary steps regarding border encroachment at different places and no men’s land.
Party headquarters to be built at Madannagar
The meeting also welcomed the decision of the central secretariat of constructing the party headquarters on its land at Madannagar, Kathmandu. All party members have been appealed to contribute at least a day’s salary or income for the building construction.
