Kathmandu, April 17: The national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation (Nepal Airlines) has been planning to purchase three more aircraft for domestic flights. The corporation, which has been criticized for not capturing the market share in domestic flights, has decided to purchase three aircraft with the aim of expanding the service.
According to the spokesperson of the Corporation, Ramesh Paudel, the action plan to purchase three small aircraft that can take flight in the remote area has been advanced. The corporation is going to purchase from the plane-building company from internal fund. The corporation currently has two Twin Otter aircraft for domestic flights. There are 25 weekly flights to fifteen different destinations through these aircraft.
He believes that this will help to meet the demand of people in remote areas and increase air connectivity. The corporation said that since the sub-committee of the corporation management has submitted its report to proceed with the action plan for the purchase of three small-sized aircraft, special initiatives will be taken to purchase the aircraft as soon as possible. For this purpose, a seven-member sub-committee has been formed by the board of directors of the corporation under the chairmanship of Captain Sudhir Shumsher Rai, a member of the board of directors, and the said sub-committee has started its work, the corporation said in a statement.
Spokesperson Paudel said that after the corporation purchased three new aircraft, more passengers can be provided services in the remote areas of Nepal. It is said that the presence of the corporation will also be effective for tourism promotion and a balanced air market.
Earlier, Nepal Airlines inducted at least 6 Chinese aircraft in it’s fleet but grounded them as these aircraft were fuel-consuming, safety issues etc.
