Kathmandu, Feb 26: According to Tribhuvan International Airport emergency plan, under Unlawful Seizure of Aircraft-Alert-4, the Nepali Army’s Sri Yudhabhairav Unit (Special Forces) conducted an anti-hijacking integrated exercise on Sunday.
The exercise was conducted based on the airport emergency action plan to effectively mobilize in their respective roles among the relevant agencies including the Nepali Army with high-level coordination while updating the security plan.
Various units of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department, Civil Aviation Authority Nepal, Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal Airlines Corporation and other concerned agencies participated in the exercise.
The exercise included coordination with all the responsible agencies from the landing of the plane, as well as activities such as Armed Intervention, Hostage Rescue, in the event that the aircraft was hijacked or taken over by unwanted elements, Nepal Army said in a statement.
Secretaries of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Foreign Affairs, Commissioners, Chief of Force, Nepal Police, Heads of Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Civil Aviation Authority Nepal, Tribhuvan International Airport, officials of concerned ministries and agencies including heads were present on the occasion.
