KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the major umbrella organization of Nepali lawyers, has sought help from the CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli to remove Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana by filing an impeachment motion.

NBA Chairman Chandeshwor Shrestha, who had reached the house of UML’s Chairman KP Sharma Oli with the protesting lawyers, said that the impeachment motion will not be approved without the help of main opposition party CPN-UML.

Hinting that the ruling coalition will help filing impeachment motion against the Chief Justice, Shrestha said that the motion will be endorsed only with the help of UML and demanded party Chair Oli’s support.

“Impeachment motion will not be approved without the consensus of all the parties,” he said.

Claiming that the existing problems will not be resolved from inside the court, he said that Chief Justice Rana should be removed from the court as he is the leader of the corruption.

However, CPN-UML Chairman Oli was doubtful with the ruling party coalition on filing impeachment on the house. He said that the problem arised in Supreme Court could not be solved by removing Chief Justice Rana or filing a impeachment motion in the house. He even said, “The court is confined with the setting of some justices and so-called senior advocates.”
