Kathmandu: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has discussed business facilitation with industrialists and businessmen of Bangladesh today. Visiting Bangladeshi industrialists and the Chamber have agreed to expedite commercial activities through road and air infrastructure development.
In connection with the completion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Bangladesh, the business representatives of the two countries have agreed to cooperate in the fields of energy, tourism, and industry. The NCC President Rajendra Malla said, “There has been a tripartite agreement for energy trade between Nepal, India and Bangladesh. We call for investment along with its effective implementation.”
President Malla emphasized that along with the road network in Bangladesh, air connectivity should be expanded from the perspective of citizens as well. Regarding the fact that Nepal’s trade deficit with Bangladesh is high, President Malla emphasized that there should be a search for items with export potential. As Nepal has the potential to reduce its trade deficit through energy trade, Malla requested for its facilitation and investment in hydro electricity generation.
Although there is an agreement on energy trade between Nepal, Bangladesh and India, it has not been practically implemented.
Similarly, President Malla said that Nepal is open for investment even in small and medium industries in Nepal and that they will take initiatives with the government for investment protection.
Morol Hyumayun Kabir, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh’s Lalmonirhat Chamber of Commerce emphasized the need to develop road infrastructure to facilitate trade between the two countries. He emphasized that both countries should take initiative to connect air and land routes as well.
