Nepal defeats Papua New Guinea by 2 wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Papua New Guinea by 2 wickets in the first match of the triangular ODI series under ICC World Cup Cricket League Two.

Nepal surpassed the victory target of 205 runs set by Papua New Guinea at the loss of 8 wickets in 49.2 overs at the Sharjah Cricket Ground of United Arab Emirates (UAE) today. Rohit Kumar Poudel and Arif Sheikh scored 58 runs and 53 runs respectively to ensure a win for their country.

Similarly, Karan KC scored 29 while Ashif Sheikh contributed 16 runs while Binod Bhandari scored 11.

For Papua New Guinea, Norman Bhanuwa, Riley Hekure and Eli Nao of Papua New Guinea took 2 wickets each.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Papua New Guinea scored 204 runs while losing 8 wickets in 50 overs.

For Nepal, Sompal Kami took three wickets while captain Sandeep Lamichhane, Arif Sheikh and Gyanendra Malla took one wicket each. Nepal will play its second match against UAE on Friday.

Seven countries including Nepal are competing in League Two. Nepal is in the sixth position with 10 points after winning five out of nine games and losing four.
